Hon. Peter Mahal Dhieu Akat Concludes WASH Meeting, Urges Regional Collaboration.

Yesterday, Hon. Peter Mahal Dhieu Akat, the Undersecretary in the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI) successfully concluded a two-day Parliamentary meeting with the state’s Members of Parliament (MPs) and representatives from various states. The meeting in Parliament focused on critical issues related to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).

During the event, Hon. Peter Mahal Dhieu Akat gave a comprehensive insight into the current state of WASH and sanitation across the country. He stressed the importance of concerted efforts by the national government, regional authorities, and international partners to address the pressing challenges facing the sector.

In addition, the Hon. Peter elaborated on the valuable lessons that South Sudan can learn from the experiences of Uganda, Kenya, and India in WASH. He highlighted how these countries have implemented successful strategies in water management, sanitation, and hygiene, and provided practical examples that could be adapted to the situation in South Sudan. The workshop created a platform to share knowledge, discuss strategies, and collectively commit to improving WASH and sanitation conditions in communities across the country. Members of the National Assembly and representatives from various stakeholders emphasized the need for an integrated approach to address water and sanitation needs.

The discussion highlighted the importance of effective communication, resource allocation, and community engagement in sustainable solutions. The workshop recommended key steps to strengthen coordination between MWRI and state governments to ensure every citizen has adequate access to clean water and sanitation facilities, while also drawing inspiration from local and national levels.
