National programme
The South Sudan WASH Compact is the Ministry's national framework for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. It was launched in Juba in May 2024 under the leadership of Hon. Pal Mai Deng, with H.E. Gen. Dr. Wani Igga officiating on behalf of the President.
The compact is organised around the goal of an Open Defecation Free South Sudan by 2030. It brings together humanitarian organisations, development partners, the diplomatic corps, national ministers, parliament and civil society, including the Netherlands Embassy and UNICEF.
Through the compact, MWRI coordinates sector investment, standards and partner delivery so WASH services move from emergency response toward durable national systems.
